When an injury occurs, whether minor or serious, it should be reported immediately to your supervisor and to OptaComp. If you are unable to call OptaComp due to the nature of your injury your supervisor will call for you. Prompt reporting allows the employee to receive appropriate medical care at the earliest possible opportunity. In many cases you may be referred to a specialist within 24-48 hours of the injury.
The OptaComp triage nurse will provide medical direction and answer any questions the injured employee may have regarding next steps. Information to complete the Notice of Injury will be collected through this triage/intake process. Timely reporting also allows the adjuster to begin investigation of the claim to ensure appropriate benefits will be provided according to the law. Failure to timely report an injury may result in denial of benefits.
Report the injury and the way it happened to your supervisor immediately. If necessary, your supervisor will assist you in reporting the injury to the OptaComp triage/intake number (888-763-1450). Your supervisor can also take steps to prevent other employees from being injured if there is a safety issue identified.
It is important that you cooperate with your treatment plan and all reasonable requests by the nurse case manager, adjuster, authorized treating clincians and your supervisor to assist in your treatment, recovery and return to work.
