workers' compensation program

Sarasota County Government highly values its employees. The SCG workers' compensation program is a comprehensive, integrated, criteria-based program specifically designed to provide enhanced medical care, improve functionality during injury recovery, and a deliver a high level of overall case coordination and service levels, resulting in minimal lost days from work, fewer disputes, less residual disability and a positive overall financial impact (both direct and indirect) to the organization.

This comprehensive, criteria-based model requires active involvement and full collaboration between management and staff, adjusters, nurse case managers and treating clinicians to provide appropriate care and benefits to injured employees as quickly as possible.

  • To ensure immediate and ongoing medical care coordination and support, supervisors and injured workers are to call OptaComp immediately at 1-888-763-1450 (24/7, 365 days/year) for all medical and related issues. The triage nurse will provide medical direction, information, and other support as required. Information to complete the Notice of Injury will be collected through this triage/intake number.
  • It is the OptaComp nurses’ responsibility to coordinate all medical and related services, and work with the employee, treating clinicians and the supervisory personnel to facilitate the Stay-at-Work/Return-to-Work program.
  • This 24/7/365 coverage by the OptaComp nurses should enhance the efforts to provide the best clinical care in an expedited fashion, with real-time communication and actions, all with minimal hassle by the injured employee or their supervisors.

Sarasota County Government provides workers' compensation benefits to its employees through a self-funded program administered by OptaComp, a subsidiary of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida.
