Effective September 13, 2008, all non-bargaining Board of County Commissioner and Supervisor of Elections employees enrolled in the Traditional Leave Program will be moved to the Universal Leave Program. For complete details of the county's leave policies please review the Sarasota County Government Human Resources Procedures and Guidelines. Program highlights are listed below.
How am I impacted by this change?
  All annual leave balances, and up to 40 hours of sick leave, will be transferred to Universal Bank A.
  Employees with at least 10 years of service have the option of taking a one-time, 50% cash payout of their remaining Sick Leave balance 
    or transferring their entire Sick Leave balance into Bank B.

Universal Leave Highlights
  Bank A: Can be used for employee's time off from work for personal reasons, including vacation, employee's illness, or care for a family member.
         Accruals: Full-time employees shall earn annual leave as follows:

          Carryover: Employees may carry over a maximum of 320 Bank A hours into the next calendar year. Any hours above 320 will be transferred 
                            into Bank B.
          Payment on Separation: Available payout of 100% of Bank A hours at employee's then current rate of pay.
  Bank B (Extended Illness Account): Can be used for employee's extended serious illness (beyond 5 days), on the first day of hospitalization or 
                                                             outpatient surgical procedures requiring admittance to the hospital or outpatient facility.
         Accruals: Bank B has no accrual.
         Carryover: There is no limit to the number of hours that can carry forward in Bank B from year to year.
         Payment on Separation: There is no payout of Bank B hours upon separation.

  Employees eligible for the sick leave payout may be able to deposit their money into a Deferred Compensation (457 Plan) Account to defer taxes.
