Stress Reduction

Nearly fifty percent of Americans say they regularly lie awake at night because of stress and are more stressed now than they were five years ago, according to the American Psychological Association. It is estimated that 75-90% of visits to the doctor are for stress related problems.

SCG has not been immune to these statistics as fear of lay offs, increased workload, economic hardship, difficulty in balancing work and home life, and other issues have grown more intense.

 Stress Reduction Programs

To contend with these statistics Employee Health and Benefits is focusing on several programs designed to provide much needed relief:
  a sixteen minute Stress-Reduction audio recording;
  a 7-week Practical Stress-Relief series;
  an Intensive 8-Week Stress-Reduction and
  Relaxation Clinic
geared toward high stress, chronic pain, depression and hypertension sufferers (Sept. 2009); an open 30-minute weekly lunchtime relaxation; a Stress-Reduction webpage offering articles, resources, links and practical tools; and extensive EAP services.

Stress-reduction can seem the last responsible choice when daily demands, pressures and deadlines loom constantly. It is especially at these busy times that reducing stress is necessary not only for health and wellness, but also for the ability to complete tasks. Stress-reduction and relaxation bring with them an increase in energy, focus, creativity and the well-being that each desires.
